Expectations for the season
So we are almost at the half way point of the season.
We are in the quarter finals of the Carabao cup, are seeded in the Europa Cup and have a tasty 3rd round home tie against Leeds in the FA Cup.

We currently sit 4th in the league and have had some great results along the way.

However, We have also picked up some key injuries and have had some missed opportunities to really kick on with some frustrating results, which have exposed our vulnerabilities.

Based on our current position and what you expect us to do in the January transfer window, what are your minimum expectations from this team this year and what in your opinion would constitute a successful season versus a disappointing season.

Re: Expectations for the season
I would of said before the injuries to Oggy and zouma we needed 3 players a left back attacking midfielder and and a striker but I would add a centre back to that. If we don’t sign at least that then I expect us to gradually fall away week by week.
Three out of those can all be back up although I’d definitely like a bit more quality in the attacking third but at centre forward we need somebody good enough to start
If we can sign enough players and the right quality then fourth is achievable as is a trophy if we fail for whatever reason to get the numbers and quality through the door I’d say 7-10th is probably where we’ll finish.
As usual recruitment is key and will shape where we finish

Also, the ambitions shown in the January window will pretty much dictate things...get in three first XI quality players, and we've got a chance.

Limp through with an attempt to sign Lingard and a CB on loan from City or Liverpool (surely Newman was brought in to be more insightful than that?!) and Antonio on his lonesome up front, and we'll all know what's coming.

Re: Expectations for the season
I expect us to end up 6th to 8th which would be a very fine achievement with the Europa to contend with, Arsenal resurgent, and Conte bringing some direction to Spurs.

Sadly I think the league will probably end up:

Citeh
Liverpool
Chelsea
Arsenal
Man Utd
Spurs
Us
Leicester

The seasons that teams break that top 6 stranglehold tends to be when a number of them are in managerial disarray...which none of them now are.

Beyond the league, hoping for quarters in the Europa League, Semi Finalists in the League Cup and a half decent run to maybe the quarters of the FA Cup.

Would all constitute a good, realistic West Ham season, although at the same disappointing with a Europa Conference League spot left to show for it. Maybe we can squeak above one of Arsenal or Spurs to really put the icing on the cake.

Re: Expectations for the season
Lingard, Striker and a CB in January and 4th is achievable.

Playing the bigger sides is not the issue.

It’s breaking down teams who sit back that we struggle with.

Re: Expectations for the season
Highly unlikely we will make top 4. Squad simply not deep enough in terms of quality in all positions. Getting a top striker in January highly unlikely as GSB and Kretinsky have said we will not pay big money.

Expectation for me is top 8 but obviously hoping for higher. As mentioned it feels like injuries and tiredness from fighting on 4 fronts will eventually see us slip down a few places and fall short in the cups. It was always going to take a few years to build a squad that can consistently challenge the rich 4 and deluded / entitled 2 ( Arsenal and Tottenham).

We are IMO punching a bit above where we expected to be. The recruitment and ability to bring a few more youngsters into the first team will determine if and how quickly we can really challenge at the top on a consistent basis. The proverbial “next level “ is much closer though so got to applaud the progress overseen by Messrs Moyes, Nolan, Pearce and Nevin.

Re: Expectations for the season
After such a good start, it would be disappointing to not get Europa league again. That would probably be a fair reflection on where we are as a club.
Signs are we are a bit hot and cold and we really need a striker to be banging in some goals.

Don't think we will get any cups since I think the injuries will now see us struggle to keep players fresh and some won't be risked as the depth of the squad is impacted.

A top 6 finish would constitute a good season.

As for the cups, let's face it, doubt we will win one, but might have a chance in the league cup.

At least a cup or champs league position.

Anything else would be disappointing, but not world ending. We've had one of the best seasons ever.

Addition of 2-3 quality players this January to push for first team not just the bench.
